How the game works

• Phone-based mystery. You play Detective Aloha. Witnesses text in; you reply by picking dialogue choices.
• Battery. Wrong deductions and wrong evidence presentations drain your battery. Run out and the run ends.
• Case File. Every clue lands in your Case File. Some clue cards have action buttons that pull additional records — many of those take real-world time to come back.

Chapter 1

The Call c1s1_the_call

Who's here: Chief Tanaka, Dylan Reeves.

Detective Aloha: Aloha.

Chief Tanaka: Aloha, detective, it's Tanaka. Don't hang up.

Detective Aloha: Chief, I'm on vaca—

Chief Tanaka: I know you're on vacation. Enjoying the waves. Holding a drink with an umbrella in it.

Chief Tanaka: Look. I'm sorry. After Mink retired you're my go-to.

Chief Tanaka: The mayor's son is missing.

Chief Tanaka: Dylan Reeves. 24. Disappeared Tuesday night — 48 hours ago now. Was supposed to show at a charity gala Wednesday, never turned up. Kid doesn't even have a car — eleven roommates, no parking. Phone's been off since Tuesday.

Chief Tanaka: The mayor is calling me every two hours, Aloha. Every. Two. Hours. The press is sniffing around. I've got half the department on this and we've got nothing.

Chief Tanaka: Kid lives in some kind of tech mansion in Pac Heights. Eleven roommates. Eleven. It's like a frat house but everyone has a podcast.

Chief Tanaka: Half of them have been off the grid since a warehouse rave Tuesday night — phones to voicemail. The other half are at the house. Jones has been interviewing them all morning.

Chief Tanaka: She's good, Aloha. You know that. But these kids aren't criminals. They're not scared of her. One of them tried to get her to invest in his startup.

Chief Tanaka: So what do you say?

Aloha can ask:

Chief Tanaka: I will fly to Maui and personally knock that drink out of your hand, Aloha.

Chief Tanaka: Because Jones spent three hours interviewing these roommates and came back with nothing but a headache and a pitch deck for something called 'SnackChain.' These people need your kind of weird.

Chief Tanaka: Six of them. Startup guy, streamer, wellness guru, trust-fund kid, programmer, event planner. Every one stranger than the last.

Chief Tanaka: Jones's full notes are in the case file. Names, details, everything. Read them between mai tais.

Chief Tanaka: Look. I wouldn't be calling you in Maui if I had another option. These kids won't talk straight to a badge. But you... you've got a way with weird people.

Detective Aloha: ... Fine. But I'm doing this from the beach.

Chief Tanaka: I'll patch you through to Jones. SFPD Homicide, on scene since six this morning. She's not thrilled I called you in, so… make it work. Photos, witnesses, real-time. She's your eyes on the ground.

Narration: You take a long sip of your mai tai. Your vacation is officially over.

Detective Jones: I've already interviewed all six. Got nothing useful. One of them pitched me a startup.

Detective Jones: Couple things from my walk-through.

Detective Jones: The wellness guy — Bodhi — has a fresh bruise on his forehead he won't explain straight.

Detective Jones: The streamer has a 40-minute gap in his VOD that night.

Detective Jones: The event planner has a spreadsheet of everyone's movements she handed me unprompted.

Detective Jones: Make of that what you will.

Detective Jones: I'll send you each of them one at a time. Don't make me regret this.

Detective Jones: Any questions before I patch the first one through?

Detective Jones: Weird. Nobody seems worried about Dylan. They're more concerned about the lease ending and who's going to cover his share of the groceries. It's a twelve-person tech house in Pac Heights. Make of that what you will.

Detective Jones: Sure. Just get something I didn't.

Bexley Chutney III: Last point of contact with Dylan was... two days ago? He was in the kitchen making one of those smoothies. Green stuff. Didn't seem distressed. Seemed very much on-brand for Dylan.

Bexley Chutney III: The house is a co-living accelerator environment. Twelve residents across two verticals. My team — SnackChain — and the Yeetly crew.

Bexley Chutney III: I wouldn't say 'sides.' I'd say... two distinct talent pools sharing infrastructure.

Bexley Chutney III: But yeah, the Yeetly guys are the ones at the rave right now. They've always been more brand-forward. My team tends to be more... operationally focused.

Bexley Chutney III: People mostly stick to their own vertical. Polite head-nods in the kitchen, but otherwise siloed. Dylan's been the exception lately, crossing the aisle.

Narration: The line goes quiet. You stare at your mai tai, questioning several life choices.

Narration: The phone picks up on the first ring. The voice on the other end sounds like it was educated at a school with Latin on the crest.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn. I've been expecting someone to call back.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: The officers who came by earlier were... thorough, I suppose, but I'm not sure they fully grasped the situation. My family's counsel, Whitford Paine, advised me to cooperate fully, so here I am.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: Calm? I am anything but calm, detective. I've barely slept.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: Do you know what it's like to lie awake wondering where your closest friend is, while also knowing that his share of the lease payment is due in twelve days? It's a dual crisis.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: I was in my room that evening. Reading. I heard movement in the house around 8, but that's not unusual — people come and go. I didn't see Dylan leave.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: I only realized he was gone the next morning when he missed the house breakfast I'd organized. Which, by the way, I'd specifically made eggs Florentine.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: Jealous? That's — no. That's not what this is. Dylan and I have a history that predates this house by a decade.

Preston Fairfax-Llewellyn: I'm simply observing that his behavior changed when a certain influence entered the picture. That's not jealousy. That's pattern recognition. Whitford Paine would agree.

Bodhi Wavelength: I wasn't entirely present for it — my body wandered. I sleepwalk, detective. The journey reveals itself in pieces. Some pieces are still surfacing.

Bodhi Wavelength: Detective. Breathe. The bruise is from the refrigerator door. A door is not a person.

Bodhi Wavelength: Violence doesn't reside in my frequency — I haven't even eaten nightshades in two years. You're projecting a narrative onto a wellness practitioner and that feels extremely un-grounded.

Hex Montague: Actually. There was one thing. Headlights came through my curtains. Around 8 — maybe a bit before, I don't really know. It was annoying. I looked out the window.
